Remembering Ye Olde Apothecary Shoppe, from a circa 1970 National Tea Company annual report.
In the late 60s and early 70s, as part of a general nostalgia wave, early medicinal memorabilia enjoyed some popularity. This often came in the form of reproduction patent medicine jars and tin signs, etc., and it even influenced pharmacy decor and advertising to a point.
Kare Drugs was a division of National Tea Company, and their stores were often paired up with National-owned food stores, much the way Osco stores were with Jewel Companies' supermarkets. This photo also reflects National's "New Orleans Style" design, employed on a number of their stores during that period.
